Steve has over 20 years experience in preventing and detecting financial crime as part of the UK Financial Conduct Authority (the ‘FCA”), at the world’s second largest mining corporation and within UK law enforcement.
Having started his career in law enforcement, proactively investigating organised crime group money laundering, Steve moved to the FCA where he served as an investigator in Wholesale Banking Enforcement. He then became a specialist supervisor in the Financial Crime Supervision Team, leading proactive reviews assessing the design and operational effectiveness of financial crime compliance programmes.
Since 2017 Steve has worked as a consultant, leading engagements across Europe, Africa and Australasia, helping clients with a variety of assignments. These have included:
- financial crime compliance remediation;
- design, review and uplift of financial crime compliance programme;
- AML audits and control testing;
- customer and supplier due diligence file remediation;
- working as a subject matter expert (‘SME’) on S.166 Skilled Person reviews and Monitorships;
- conducting FCPA/UKBA investigations; and
- leading regulatory liaison.
